VOLUNTEERS AT MASON SCHOOL

Mason elementary school has a great need for volunteer tutors, mentors, readers, etc.  Our church is involved with Mason as a faith based initiative.  Unfortunately, not very many of us are involved.  The volunteer coordinator for Mason said that they have plenty of needy children to go around.  Won't you consider helping children who so desperately need a positive role model?  You will find applications in the church office.  Union needs a greater presence there.

CENTENARY CHURCH/THE BRIDGE

HERE’S YOUR CHANCE

Are you looking for a rewarding service opportunity?  Several of our members work at The Bridge
on the second Thursday (10:00 until about 1:30) and the fifth Sunday (2:30 until about 5:00) of the
month.  Founded as Centenary CARES in 2004, The Bridge is located in Centenary United Methodist
Church at 1610 Olive Street in downtown St. Louis.  The Bridge offers food, shelter, and other services
for residents of downtown St. Louis who are currently without a home of their own.  The Bridge is a
point of triage for those in downtown St. Louis who are homeless and/or food-deprived.  In addition to
serving over 3,000 meals per week, The Bridge offers phone and mail service, restrooms, and
provides day shelter from the elements.  Thanks to partnerships with other agencies, guests receive
medical attention and help in getting new or replacement proof of identity.
What do we do at The Bridge?  Our shift is about 3 hours, during which time we prepare a meal under
the supervision of the chef and other kitchen staff there.. Your job might be slicing fruit or vegetables
for a salad, sorting donated food for storage, wrapping plastic forks or spoons with napkins, or cutting
pies and cakes for dessert.  When it is time to serve the meal, we move from the kitchen to the food
line and each of us is responsible for adding food to a tray as it moves down the line. One of the
greatest blessings of the job is the opportunity to talk with the guests, either as they move through the
line, or before/after the meal.  After the meal we help with wiping down the food and other light
cleaning tasks.  It is joyful work, and you’ll feel the joy of serving others.  We’d love to welcome you to our team!! Questions? Contact the church office: 314-547-1228 or e-mail:unionumcstl@sbcglobal.net  For more information about The Bridge, go to their Facebook page, www.facebook.com/BridgeSTL
